The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) believes that every website can and should be accessible to people with disabilities. This website and the process by which it was designed are intended to serve as models to facilitate systemic change.
AFB's website complies with all three levels of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Access Initiative Guidelines and Recommendations for Content and Authoring Tools. We affirm, support, and comply with AFB's "Policy Statement for Assuring That Materials Produced by the American Foundation for the Blind Are Accessible to People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired."
In addition, AFB's website includes enhancements which promote accessibility and usability for blind or visually impaired users.
AFB asserts that all websites should be accessible to people with disabilities. We urge all web developers to create sites accessible to all. Though the AFB eLearning site includes links to other websites, we cannot guarantee that these sites comply with web accessibility standards. AFB encourages visitors who find web accessibility problems to contact the website owners and ask them to comply with accessibility recommendations.

Financial Disclosure Policy
All individuals in a position to influence the content of eLearning programs offered through AFB such as webinars and online courses must disclose to eLearners any relevant financial relationship(s), in any amount occurring within the past 12 months, to include the following information:
- the name of the individual;
- the name of the commercial interest(s);
- and the nature of the relationship the person has with each commercial interest.
A conflict of interest is present when individuals in a position to control the content of an eLearning offering (or their spouses/partners) have a relevant personal financial relationship with a commercial entity that benefits the individual and may ultimately bias the presentation of that content to colleagues and participants.
The absence of a stated disclosure in promotional materials or at point of sale indicates that no relevant financial relationship(s) exist.
Every eLearning provider must sign a form at least once a year (prior to the first presentation or offering) and then as appropriate if any of the information changes within the year. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial or nonfinancial relationships will be disqualified from participating in the planning and implementation of the eLearning offerings.
Timing of Disclosure to eLearners
AFB will disclose the above information to eLearners prior to the beginning of the educational activity through promotional information that is disseminated about the eLearning program and at point of sale.
American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) wants to provide you with a positive online experience, enabling you to take advantage of our extensive information resources and exchange valuable information with other organizations and individuals. Our information gathering and dissemination practices and procedures are outlined below.
Information Collection and Use
The choice of personally identifiable information you disclose to us is completely at your discretion. It is not mandatory for you to answer any question, but you will have to provide certain information in order to access some areas of our site or to complete transactions initiated by you.
When purchasing a webinar or online course through the website or joining an online discussion, you must complete a registration process and provide us with your name, address, and contact information. When placing an online course or webinar order, you must provide credit card information and addresses for billing and shipping. This information is stored in a password-protected area so that we can contact you about order status and provide other customer service activities. You have the option of storing your credit card information for express checkout when making future purchases.
We may employ other companies to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, sending e-mail and processing credit card payments. These service providers do not share or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purpose; they are not permitted to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these contracted services.
All financial data are securely managed and safeguarded in accordance with applicable laws and standard practices. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input, during transmission of financial data. We reveal only the last four digits of your credit card numbers when confirming an order or storing your information. It is important that you protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer.
When you visit afb.org, our web server automatically recognizes and collects only your IP address or domain name. We collect aggregate information on pages you and other visitors access in order to analyze trends, administer the site, track movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.
Record Keeping Policy
1. eLearner records are saved in AFB's database for seven years.
2. Records that are in the AFB database are held in a separate file that is maintained confidentially by web staff and is password-protected. Only staff members involved in the administration of eLearning have access to the records. The server is backed up every 24 hours and stored offsite in a secure facility.
3. eLearners must have a user name and password to access their own records. If an eLearner forgets his/her password, a system is in place to e-mail the password to the address on file. If the user has changed his/her e-mail address he or she can update the record with the new e-mail address. If the learner has not updated the new address and has lost the password, he or she can contact the eLearning customer service department for help in updating the records.
The eLearning permanent record includes the following information:
- Provider name and address
- eLearner name and contact information
- Activity title
- Type of activity (such as webinar, online course, self-study, etc.)
- Start and completion date(s) of the activity
- Number of continuing education credits awarded for certifying body such as ACVREP
- Instructor(s) name(s) and credentials
- Scores on post-tests
- Evaluations of courses
- Type of professional such as occupational therapist, vision rehabilitation therapist, etc.

Copyright and Use Policy
All downloadable e-books, videos, and ASCII files as well as Online Subscriptions are copyrighted by the American Foundation for the Blind.
Online Subscriptions to courses or webinars are no longer available to the user after one year from the date of purchase.
Downloads must be retrieved within 48 hours after purchase. They will no longer be available for download after this time period.
Purchasers agree to use electronic content for individual use only. These products may not be reproduced, transmitted, modified, or distributed in print or electronic form or in any format by any means now or hereafter known.
